Can I Copyright an Idea? - What Can't I Copyright?

Last week we discussed what a Copyright entailed and what types of works are covered by copyright law.
A copyright is a form of intellectual property that protects the original works of authorship. Like I said we break it down more in our blog, check it out here.

Now everything created does not lend to copyright protection.

So, what is not protected by Copyright?

NOT PROTECTED BY COPYRIGHT

  • An Idea

  • Concepts

  • Methods

  • Systems

  • Short sayings, quotes or tag lines - not enough creation or creativity to give one person ownership.

  • Replicas

  • Titles

  • Names

  • Facts

  • Words

  • Recipes in the form of listing ingredients

  • Fonts

  • Blank forms

The purpose of a Copyright is to protect authored and created works that show some kind of expression.
